2020 New Tudor Watch BLACK BAY FIFTY-EIGHT

The Black Bay Fifty-Eight gets its name from the year 1958, in which the first TUDOR divers’ watch waterproof to 200 metres (660 ft), reference 7924 or “Big Crown”, was introduced. Among other aesthetic nods to this historic watch, the model offers a case 39 mm in diameter in keeping with the characteristic proportions of the 1950s.
The Movement. For the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Tudor redesigned their robust caliber MT 5602 movement 31.8 mm x 6.5 mm) to fit better within the smaller case, the result is the new caliber MT 5402 (25.6 mm x 4.6 mm) which offers both a less wide footprint that’s considerably less thick as well.
Tudor has been riding the heritage/vintage reissue train for nearly a decade. With the release of the Heritage Chronograph in 2010, and then two years later with the original (ETA-Powered) Black Bay, we saw a dramatic rebirth of a brand that for a long time had lived in big-brother-Rolex’s shadow.
The Tudor Black Bay was born in 2012, as the second step in Tudor’s revival era – one year after the Heritage Chrono and the same year as the Pelagos – under the Philippe Peverelli/Davide Cerrato management. The Black Bay clearly redefined the brand, repositioned the collection, made the brand sexy again and put it back on the road to success. The Black Bay was and still is the brand’s bestseller and will remain the milest size.
